MY SEPTIC HAS FAILED, DO I NEED TO UPGRADE TO A HSTP?

Most home-owners and businesses are under the assumption that if your current system has failed you must upgrade to a bio-cycle or HSTP system as per council regulations.

As the experts in wastewater, Hughes Contracting Group Pty Ltd have many different types of septic systems that are approved to install all over QLD such as the advanced enviro-septic system (AES) that uses a convention septic tank and a large sand bed with specialty trenches to dispose of the effluent naturally and safely.

TYPES OF SEPTIC SYSTEMS:

Septic tanks use biological methods to treat waste before discharging through below-ground systems. There are a number of different options available, including the following:

Local council regulations and laws apply to the application for, and use of, septic tanks. To install an on-site septic system you will need:

  • Approval from local government
  • Treatment plant construction in accordance with the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018.

Hughes Contracting Group can assist with the planning and construction of your new septic system, as well as liaising with council on your behalf.

A wastewater system that contains a septic tank and a trench/bed drain field made of gravel or stone. Conventional systems are usually used in family homes or small businesses.

Chamber systems have been used extensively for more than 30 years and have become a common alternative to gravel systems. This system contains a number of interconnected chambers. The areas surrounding the chamber are filled with soil and these pipes carry waste water from the septic tank to the surrounding chambers. In these chambers the waste comes into contact with soil. The microbes in the soil treat the waste naturally.

This system can be used across many different types of drain fields. The primary benefit of drip distribution systems is that no pile of soil is required as drip laterals are inserted several inches into the top layer of soil. The downside of this system is that a larger dosing tank must be installed and the need for electrical power creates added expenses.

This unit uses a similar process to sewage plants on a smaller scale. The aerobic system sends oxygen into the waste treatment tank. This added oxygen perpetuates the bacterial activity in the tank which further treats nutrients in the effluent.
